Wow I haven’t updated my blog recently. Wolves fancast, now that it’s a proper website and not just through wordpress, doesn’t have a reblog option so I have lost the habit of sharing my stuff on here.

I have still been doing plenty of writing, not least of all for the Fancast. All my work on the new site can be found here
http://www.wolvesfancast.com/category/richard-hobbs/

As well as doing a matchday blog for the Express and Star I have been writing posts for them online too

http://www.expressandstar.com/comment-and-opinion/sport-blogs/wolves-blog/

I will try to keep more upload my work on here too and share my pieces via this site and hopefully over the summer will write a few non-Wolves and possibly non-football related posts.

Over and out.

Money hungry Johnson does little to help him get out of his Molineux Exile

Money hungry Johnson does little to help him get out of his Molineux Exile

After his interview on Soccer AM, I was annoyed by Roger Johnson. Here’s what I think about what he said about his exile at Wolves

Wolves Fancast

Following his interview on Soccer AM this weekend, Roger Johnson didn’t cover himself in glory with Wolves fans. Richard Hobbs shares his views on the outcast.

With our good start to the season and with more pressing things to worry about like our defensive lapses or occasional bluntness going forward, I had pretty much forgotten about Roger Johnson still being at Wolves up until this weekend. On Saturday he appeared on Soccer AM prior to our game against his former club, Birmingham City.

Roger_JohnsonOn the show, he couldn’t fully open up about his feeling about his situation due to his contractual obligations. But he did give an insight into his day to day life at the moment. The interview made quite awkward viewing for me; he lacked any fight or enthusiasm when answering Max and Helen’s questions. I was on the verge of feeling sorry for him. That was until…

The Team at the turn of the Millennium, where are they now?

The Team at the turn of the Millennium, where are they now?

My blog on what the first Wolves XI to play in the 21st century are up to now, nearly 15 years on.

A lot has changed since the turn of the 21st century, in both football and society. In the 1999/2000 season, Wolves had a squad filled with young academy players and were pushing for promotion to the Premier League. Okay, so maybe not that much as changed!

So let us have a look at the 11 who started the club’s first game of the 2000’s, and see what they are up to nearly 15 years on.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Blackburn Rovers, 3rd January 2000.

Oakes; Muscat, Bazeley, Curle, Naylor; Pollet, Robinson, Emblen, Sinton; Akinbiyi, Branch

Michael Oakes

A Goalkeeper who probably didn’t get the appearances and accolade that he deserved at Molineux. Often the backup keeper at his time at Wolves, Oakes played 28 league matches in the 99/00 season as he saw off the aging Mike Stowell. After a season at Cardiff before retiring, Oakes is now goalkeeping coach…

What now for Michael Jacobs?

What now for Michael Jacobs?

My blog on Michael Jacobs, who is struggling to breaking into the Wolves team despite his performances last season.

Despite his influential performances last season, Michael Jacobs is struggling to force in way into the starting line up. Richard Hobbs looks at where Jacobs goes from here.

Around 2pm on August 10th, I was eagerly awaiting team news prior to the inaugural fixture of the season against Norwich City. There were two major surprises in the starting line up, firstly Matt Doherty coming in for captain Sam Ricketts and the second being Dave Edwards in the attacking midfield role at the expense of Michael Jacobs.

Playing Edwards was without a doubt the right decision. The Welshman’s energy and running made him a nuisance to the Canary’s defence and capped off his display by scoring the winning goal. Jacobs was given the chance in the much sought role against the following match against Northampton Town in the League Cup two days later. But, like many players that evening, did…

A possible return: Could Steven Fletcher play for Wolves once again?

A possible return: Could Steven Fletcher play for Wolves once again?

Something I wrote a week or 2 back after Seven Fletcher was linked with a move back to Wolves. After his brace at the weekend for Sunderland, a move seems even more unlikely now.

Wolves Fancast

As Wolves’ search for a striker continues, one name linked to the club was former fan favourite Steven Fletcher. Richard Hobbs discusses whether fans would want him back after #headsgone-gate.

Almost certainly our best player during our recent three year stint in the Premier League, Steven Fletcher broke many a Wanderers fan’s heart when he handed in a transfer request in the summer of 2012. To make matters worse, the Scot then tweeted #headsgone to inform fans of his view of staying at the club following relegation. It’s not hard to understand any player who wanting to leave to play at a higher level, even if you don’t want them to leave. But telling the telling those who worship you every Saturday afternoon via a hashtag showed a lack of class. Unlike Matt Jarvis who departed at a similar time, Fletcher left the club with little respect of the Molineux…

The Future’s bright, the Future’s Evans

My blog on Lee Evans, a young player who was playing in the Conference a couple of seasons ago now in fine form for Wolves.

Wolves Fancast

Following his contract extension and his recent form, Richard Hobbs takes a look at Lee Evans’ rapid rise from the Conference to the Championship.

Wolves have never really been a club to do a lot of business on transfer deadline day. However, On January 31st 2013, the club was slowly sliding down the league after appointing Dean Saunders as the forth manager down Molineux in under a year. When Wanderers fans were hoping for a signing that would reignite our increasingly dismal season. What we were greeted was an 18 year old Welshman from 4th Division outfit Newport County.

At the time it was an underwhelming signing. He was clearly a signing for the future at a time when Wolves needed a level of short-term thinking to get us through to the end of the season without capitulating. And with his name, the signing of Lee Evans made us a…

The Football Blogging Awards 2014!

The Football Blogging Awards 2014!

football-blogging-awards-vote-for-me-new-gif

As you might be aware, I’ve been doing a lot of writing for Wolves Fancast in the past few months. It’s been great writing about the club I love and after a few tough years, and having this focus in my life has really helped my readjust to moving back in the area for going to university. As well as writing for them, I’ve also starting appearing on their excellent podcast as well. Contrary to my own beliefs, what I’m writing doesn’t appear completely terrible and I have been put forward for an award and the Football Blogging Awards for best new blog and the fancast has been put forward for best podcast! For me to get this award though I need as many people to vote for me as possible and I’d be very appreciative of your support. So here are three methods to vote for me.

1) On the website http://www.footballbloggingawards.co.uk/vote-now/

Fill in your details and put my name in the ‘New’ category. Also if you could put Wolves Fancast in the podcast category I would be very grateful! It will ask you to confirm it via your email address, but it might go to your junk/spam folder instead of your inbox for some reason even though it’s completely safe.

2) Via Facebook – Same as on the website. You have to like the page, but considering how excellent it is it’s more than worth it. https:/www.facebook.com/FootballBloggingAwards/app_126231547426086

3) Via Twitter – If you have a twitter account, click on this link and it will already have what you need to tweet. http://ctt.ec/e9wjE and for the Fancast tweet “I’m voting in @TheFBAs for @WWFCFancast as the Best Football #Podcast” twitter

You’re able to do all three methods so if you are able too, please do more than one method as it means I’ll get more votes, but don’t set up social networking accounts on my behalf!

You can find my blog for Wolves Fancast at http://wolvesfancast.com/category/blogs/richard-hobbs/ if you haven’t read it yet or if want a good read. The podcasts can be found at www.soundcloud.com/wolvesfancast cropped-bnydj8jccaabfzx2

If you’re able to forward this on to anyone who’s interested in football or would like to help me out it would mean so much. Everything to do with the site is done on a volunteer basis, and to be even considered is an honour for the hard work everybody puts in to produce quality content. But at the end of the day, it would be very nice to win and with your help, we might be in with a shout. Thank you very much in advance, Richard
